Toronto By Bike – Sonic Eclectic

"In this year’s mayoral debate, the future of cycling in Toronto took a front seat; with candidates representing both sides of the issue. The talk centered around whether bike lanes should be put in place on major streets or instead, for the safety of drivers and convenience of drivers, along side streets. Many feel quite comfortable with the ease of the bike lanes already set up on many major streets while others like Thomson ride in fear. I decided to take to the streets on my new bike to see for myself."

Adventures With Bruce | Adventures With Bruce: Day 5 (outdoorsica.com)

"In Hamilton, the Escarpment is locally known as “The Mountain”. It got its nickname because the geologic feature, although scenic, was a serious impediment to early regional travel. In 1890, work began on an incline railway which could move products and passengers from Hamilton up and over the Mountain towards neighbouring Barton Township. Construction was completed in 1892 and for nearly 40 years these 700 feet of train tracks on a 31% grade serviced the city’s residents and tourists alike. Improving access and the popularization of motorways meant that by 1931 the railway was no longer needed. The tracks were removed during World War II and the right of way was adopted by the Hamilton Parks Board."

Top Toronto Bike Paths

"The top bike paths in Toronto aren't made up of too many hidden gems. As it should, the Toronto Cycling Map charts the routes of the various paved and low-difficulty dirt trails across the city. But, due to our plentiful ravines -- where a number of these paths and trails are located -- in the absence of the map and/or a little local knowledge, it's possible to miss some excellent opportunities to ride without fear of (heavy) vehicular traffic."
