"Grimsby’s Tim Warnick wants people to remember the time Canadians fought off an invasion from the south. He wants them to remember the rude wake-up call the country received, one that galvanized national spirit. He wants locals to remember the brave Canadians who fought at Fort Erie and Ridgeway.
Yet, Warnick isn’t thinking of the War of 1812. He’s thinking of an almost forgotten chapter in Canadian history, the Fenian invasions of the 1860s and 1870s. The raids were an attempt by Irish Nationalists to strike at the British Empire which, at that time, claimed the entirety of Ireland."

"The Greenbelt supports our Open Ontario plan to develop a prosperous sustainable economy that protects our environment and creates jobs.
We welcome requests from municipalities interested in growing the Greenbelt in their communities - and invite you to join us in celebrating a greener future for Ontario."
We would suggest the province use the OTC to develop a relationship with Greenbelts to market trail activity and a trail economy with these land managers. Our experience with the GTA Greenbelt and trails in not a model we wish to see repeated elsewhere.

CONSERVATION AUTHORITY SEEKS ASSISTANCE TO LOCATE EEL - The Whig Standard - Ontario, CA
"Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is asking all anglers, amateur fishers and outdoor enthusiasts to be on the look out for American eels. Once abundant in the area, the American eel population has declined by 99% in the Upper St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario since the 1970s, making them an endangered species. In 2004, the provincial government cancelled all commercial and recreational fishing of the American eel in a bid to protect the species. Anyone who sees or catches an American eel is asked to contact the conservation authority at 613-692-3571, ext. 1176, or email michael.yee@rvca.ca, providing as many details as possible, including location, bait or lure type, time of day, estimated length of eel, and the general habitat. A picture would also be helpful. Anyone who catches an eel must release it immediately."
