"Grimsby’s Tim Warnick wants people to remember the time Canadians fought off an invasion from the south. He wants them to remember the rude wake-up call the country received, one that galvanized national spirit. He wants locals to remember the brave Canadians who fought at Fort Erie and Ridgeway.
Yet, Warnick isn’t thinking of the War of 1812. He’s thinking of an almost forgotten chapter in Canadian history, the Fenian invasions of the 1860s and 1870s. The raids were an attempt by Irish Nationalists to strike at the British Empire which, at that time, claimed the entirety of Ireland."
