The State of the Trail Sector study looks at how trails are used, supported, and experienced across the country, including both day-to-day use and the work involved in governance, stewardship, and funding. The insights gathered through this study will help build a clearer picture of the trail sector across Canada, supporting stronger planning, coordination, and understanding of the conditions shaping trails in different communities and contexts. We hope the findings will be useful to organizations, communities, and partners working to sustain and strengthen trails over time. As part of this, we’re inviting you to take part and to help circulate the survey within your networks. The survey link below will guide respondents to the questions most relevant to them. Organizations can share perspectives on stewardship, funding, governance, and coordination, while individuals can share their experiences using and accessing trails. Mayor's Walks - 2026
With trails in 100's of Ontario Communities this is a great way to showcase your local support while enabling all the Mayor's and their trail friends to get out for a celebration of trails. Ask for the Mayor's Walk event planning tool, email us at execdir@ontariotrails.ca Itr was a busy weekend all over Ontario as communities and their leaders explored their local trails. We wish to thank all the communities that celebrated this year. It was helpful that many municipalities took to social media to announce their events and then post the group photos of people outdoors enjoying their local trails. One such community was the Township of Front of Yonge.
ONTARIO TRAIL PROJECTS AND FUNDING A clear message was delivered by municipal, provincial, and federal elected representatives in attendance at the G2G Rail Trail community meeting in Guelph on May 30th: They fully support the construction of an accessible off-road trail that safely connects Guelph to the 132-km G2G Rail Trail to Goderich, in time for the Guelph and Goderich bicentennials in 2027. In remarks backing the G2G Guelph Connection Trail project, Guelph Mayor Cam Guthrie, Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner, and Guelph MP Dominique O’Rourke all praised the legacy of the late project champion John Fisher and lauded the advocacy work of G2G Rail Trail and local community stakeholders in bringing the project to its current stage. Speakers also included Guelph mayoral candidate and long-time councillor Leanne Caron, who pledged her support to complete the project, Speed River Bicycle co-owner James Fedosov, who explained how supporting the new trail will benefit all Guelphites, and G2G Guelph volunteer committee member Cyndy McLean, who outlined the positive outcomes of developing a trail connection fully accessible to mobility device users. read more . . . https://mailchi.mp/ontariotrails.ca/trail-wise-2026-06-15-ontario-trail-news-17466651 |
