Skill Level:

You do NOT need to be an advanced rider. This will not be focused on North Shore stuff like skinnies, although we WILL stop at them all and give people a chance to try them. We will spot each other and cover some basic bail/safety techniques, so this is a good ride for you if you have at least intermediate skills.

You should be comfortable riding a rock garden and riding over small logs (8" or less) to really benefit from this ride. Strongly recommend everyone bring at least knee armour. As we will be stopping, bug spray is a sensible item for your backpack.

Separated Bike Lanes on Wellesley

Over the last 1.5 years Cycle Toronto has focused on bringing physically separated bike lanes to Toronto. As a result of our efforts, the first lane will be built on Sherbourne this summer and an Environmental Assessment process for separated bike lanes on Richmond and Adelaide should begin this summer as well. Last month we achieved another victory when the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee expanded the Wellesley Street separated bike lane project east to Parliament and west to St. George, and approved the public consultation process to implement a separated bike lane on Harbord Street from St. George to Ossington.

Study after study has confirmed that physically separated bike lanes, connected in a robust network, have a dramatic impact on getting more people riding bicycles on city streets. The City of Toronto reports that 54% of Torontonians rode a bicycle in the last year, yet according to Statistics Canada, only 2% ride to work regularly. Adding physical barriers between cars and bicycles de-stresses the cycling experience, improves safety and makes people feel more comfortable.
