BioOne Online Journals - Effects of Recreational Trails on Northern Cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis) in Forested Urban Parks

"Trail use was estimated using cameras at seven of 14 sites. Nest attendance was not related to distance to trail, nest height, or trail use. We found little evidence that daily nest survival rates were related to distance to trail, nest attendance, trail use, or site. Rather, daily nest survival was best explained by and positively related to nest height. Though vegetation characteristics in randomly-located plots were unrelated to distance from trail, nests closer to trails were surrounded by more small stems (8 cm), less native vegetation, and were placed at greater heights and farther from the foliage edge. Thus, birds may modify nest-site selection in relation to recreational trails."

Welland Canal Trail Riding - GTA Motorcycle.com

"In spite of the rutted and washed out sections the trails have a lot of potential. If trespassing could be eliminated and the trails groomed smooth to flatten out the ruts these trail sections would make an excellent grand prix style track that run along a beautiful section of the canal. In fact, if the wide sections of land up to 100 metres across between the roads and bridges were groomed for this purpose there would be several tracks that could be used and enjoyed by riders of all skill levels."

ontario bicycle accident insurance claims Ottawa Personal Injury Lawyer, David Hollingsworth www.ottawainjury.ca

"Ottawa Bicycle Accidents-Cycling on roads meant for cars, trucks and other motorized vehicles can be a dangerous form of transportation. Incidents of late attest to this danger. But the good news is that bicycle accidents have gone down in line with the general drop in traffic deaths in Canada. That said, each year between 50 and 70 bicycle accidents occur where cyclists are killed in a car accident.

Statistically, a cyclist is safer than a motor vehicle driver or passenger — plus, cycling offers positive health and environmental benefits. Cycling is good for one’s health, improves one’s balance and co-ordination, helps with weight control, enhances one’s general well-being and promotes mental health."
