Pedal - Canada's Cycling Magazine

"The volunteers at the 138m indoor Velodrome in London Ontario are gearing up for another busy winter of indoor riding and racing. New for the 2010-2011 season is a standard membership fee for all members, this new fee will be more in tune with the economic times that all cyclists are facing. The executive of the FCV wants to make sure that we are doing everything possible to attract cyclists from across Ontario and the north east for our programs."

The city is kicking in an additional $15,000.

Take the Lane: Here's a Wish Book for cyclists

"It's the program that will be introduced to Ontario's municipal leaders today at 10 a.m. in Windsor, and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. The Share the Road Cycling Coalition, the League of American Bicyclists, the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada and Trek Bicycles Canada are going to make their pitch to those who attend the session and hope that they can start a movement in Ontario.

Personally, I hope Andy Clarke, exec director of the League, brought some of the Yearbooks. It really helps to know that Oxford, Miss., population 16,727, has been looking at complete streets and road diets, hosts smart cycling courses and actually has redefined itself as a cycling town. If Oxford can do it, why not Goderich, or Brockville or Orillia?"

U.S. cycling group pushes pedal power in Windsor

"The largest cycling advocacy group in the U.S. expanded its reach Wednesday to this side of the border with hopes cities across Canada — including Windsor — will step up to improve safety and infrastructure for a growing legion of riders.

The League of American Bicyclists will offer free across Ontario its Bicycle Friendly Communities program — a designation system that assesses cities on where they stand in terms cycling in their communities than aids in steering improvements."

Hooked on cycling - Chatham Daily News - Ontario, CA

"A semiretired Windsor tool and die maker went for a bicycle ride Tuesday and ended up in Chatham.

Actually Martin Bujak planned it that way.

Wheeling through Chatham in late afternoon, he said he would easily reach London -- his target -- before dark."

Toronto’s bike lanes need to be connected | Posted Toronto | National Post

"Cycling is reaching epidemic proportions: Just this spring, Harry Rosen festooned his Yorkville shop with mannequins in suits, all riding bicycles; heck, even Michael Bryant bought a new Cannondale at Duke’s Cycle in June.

There’s just one thing missing: a bicycle network. The 2010 Toronto Cycling Map tells the story. The city has exactly one north-south bike lane, on Sherbourne Street, which connects Bloor Street to Queens Quay, and no east-west bike lane. The College lane dies at Bay Street; the Harbord-Wellesley bike lane dies for four blocks between Borden Street and Spadina Avenue."

Hmmmm - great profile Toronto cycling on a National scale, BUT what about the 88,000km of trails in Ontario - they need to be connected - or the 250,000km in Canada? Now there is a story of national importance.

Hitting the gas - The Globe and Mail

We will never settle for the status quo, we will always move forward, and do so by working together with Ontarians to give expression to their hopes, their dreams and their aspirations for their province.'"

Algonquin Provincial Park River Canoe Ontario Canada

"A woman enjoys the quietness and scenery while traveling in a canoe along a river between Whitefish Lake and Rock Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada.

The reflections of the tops of the forest trees decorate the surface of a river located between Whitefish Lake and Rock Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. A woman in a canoe paddles slowly through this scenic paradise where the water ripples from the oars and disperses alongside the canoe."

Wiarton, Ontario, pop 2,300 on Colpoys Bay

"Those who enjoy hiking and walking, will know of the Bruce Trail which runs along the Niagara Escarpment, through town on its way up the Bruce Peninsula to its end in Tobermory, Ontario.

This trail has wonderful views of the local scenery, especially the views of Georgian Bay."

Reasons for cycling restrictions - The Whig Standard - Ontario, CA

"'Cycling Restrictions at Lemoine Point.' From time to time the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) has to make choices to limit environmental impacts and provide safe user experiences at its properties.

Recently the CRCA limited the use of bicycles at the Lemoine Point Conservation Area to specific trails and service roads for such safety and environmental reasons. What wasn't done well was to provide more advance notice and outline reasons for the change. I apologize to Lemoine Point visitors for this and hope the following is informative."

We remind the public that most trail use areas are managed land areas as well - OTC

E-bike ban stands for municipal trail system - Collingwood Enterprise Bulletin - Ontario, CA

"They may be environmentally-friendly, but e-bikes are still banned from the Collingwood trail system.

However, municipal staff will be reporting back on whether to allow the bikes if the rider is physically disabled.

On Monday, councillors turned down a recommendation of the town's trail committee to allow electric bicycles up to a certain weight on the municipal trail system, to a maximum speed of 20 km/h; the recommendation, though, was not supported by the Leisure Services Committee, nor is the concept supported by the Georgian Trail board of management."

Similar to automobiles - its relative speed that causes injury - glad to see a thorough study of the issue.
