Beat the November blahs .... let's do some hiking at the Rouge River Valley Toronto - Beat the November blahs .... let's do some hiking at the Rouge River Valley at Toronto, Ontario, Canada | Eventful
"The BER months have arrived .... let's hope this coming winter will be bring tons of snow so that COWS can romp and play on the white stuff! But don't you just dread November .... leaves have fallen, nights are early, dawn is late, we get frost, we get damp, in other words, blah weather. Unappetizing. Hey, but let's embrace November since it is the precursor to winter, which COWS love, right. Instead of dreading this not-so-great time of the year, let's go out for a walkabout! If it's pouri.."
30-mile trek through bush - Timmins Daily Press - Ontario, CA
"I know it's still there, hidden somewhere in the bush, or more probably, still visible from the train window – mileage 222 on the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway, jumping off point for the Porcupine Camp and the beginning of a 30-mile trek into the gold area.
This was the beginning of the now famous Porcupine Trail, Ontario's own Chilkoot Pass, a rough stretch of land that brought in hundreds of prospectors and mining men, all hopeful for a repeat performance of the Klondike discoveries in the bush of New Ontario."

Youth Canoe Building Program | Aviva Community Fund
"My idea is to create a program for youth based on canoe building.
The canoe building programs would be with groups like First Nations youth or even inner city youth….such programs could build in skill development….on traditions and culture….and add to self esteem. Besides these, the canoe is a great building tool to also teach about Canadian history, culture and identity. Especially for new Canadians or those in urban centres without much exposure to the outdoors."

Transport initiative would beat a better path for school travel
"Cars clogging the school bus zone, drivers pulling U-turns, kids jaywalking and congestion everywhere — traffic was becoming such a headache at Broadview Avenue Public School that some parents didn’t want their children walking to the Westboro elementary school out of fear something bad might happen.
“A lot of parents were telling us they were really nervous someone was going to be hit by a car,” said Karen Mason, a parent of two students at the school.
The parent council set out to find a solution and, in doing so, became part of a new initiative called the School Travel Planning Project."

The future of BWG Trails - Bradford Times - Ontario, CA
"The statistics support the importance of trails. Seven out of 10 Canadian adults ranked walking as their top physical activity. For youth under 19, trail-supported activities like walking, jogging, running and bicycling were #1.
Those statistics helped guide the new Bradford West Gwillimbury Trails System Master Plan, which was recommended for approval in principle by Council on September 21.
The Master Plan provides a guideline for the development of an interconnected trail system that will link parks, commercial areas, workplaces and residents, and appeal to a wide range of users, year-round."

Ontario Cyclist
Ontario Cyclist: "Three people walking in an Ontario park were hit by lightning a few months ago and are in hospital. In Canada alone, 10 people will die and 160 are injured by lightning each year.
Bike safety is important when bike touring as well. We often cycle when its raining and providing you have good gear such as a Gore-Tex jacket and waterproof panniers you just ride out the storm, no problem. However if there is lightning strikes in the area sitting on bicycle is a risk, the metal frame and skinny bike tires conduct electricity and will not insulate you."
