Simcoe Article: Trails focus of Wasaga meeting
"'We'd like to encourage connecting links' between neighboring towns, said Bryan MacKell, the county's director of Planning, Economic Development and Tourism.
For instance, tourists staying in Wasaga Beach could walk or bike a trail to Collingwood, continue down to Stayner and then return to the Beach in a loop. The county would act as the overall grandparent to the development of these links, MacKell said."

Beaver Pond cutting begins
"As heavy equipment began felling trees in Kanata's Beaver Pond Forest Monday, one of the landowners said his big mistake was allowing members of the public to use the property for recreational purposes.
'Over the years, the public has built trails. They've had free use of the land for 30 years,' said Lyon Sachs, the 85-year-old president of Urbandale Construction, which bought the forest land with partner Richcraft in 1999. 'Had we not done that, nobody would have said a word.
'We assumed we were doing something good for the public,' Sachs said. 'Now we're finding that maybe we didn't do something so good, because people have a certain affection for this land.'"

Green Act well intentioned, but flawed - thestar.com
"The Greenbelt is a fine enough idea, but due to the large amount of unprotected land between developed areas and the Greenbelt, and because of development leapfrogging the protected zone, sprawl will continue as if there was no Greenbelt at all, just in different parts of the province.
This could have been avoided had the Greenbelt Act been accompanied by a province-wide, revenue-neutral land value tax, which would encourage infill and walkable communities plus generate government revenue that would reduce other taxes."
