"The work the CRCA has done this year to maintain the trails should be complimented and rewarded. It is indeed quite dismaying to read that CRCA has been pushed to reduce the budget for maintenance for the coming year. CRCA has one the best cross-country trails in Ontario, and we the skiing/taxpaying public would very much encourage you to go forward in enhancing our Kingston-area gem.

Any reduction in maintenance for grooming and brush cutting will increase the likelihood of possible liability and, of course, a concerning lack of respect for what has become a valuable component of Kingston's winter activities.

I previously wrote to the authority this winter about the cross-country ski trails, and now would encourage the CRCA to not cut back funding in this year and would ask the city to support that and restore the $4,000 in funding.

"OTTAWA—Canoeists and kayakers planning a traditional Canadian summer trip — including Scouts and Girl Guides on group excursions to explore a quiet lake — could now face a mountain of paperwork and a boat tax under new federal rules, critics charge.

Outdoor organizations are hopping mad over an overhaul of boating regulations they say has introduced a requirement for a federal licence for canoes and kayaks used in “guided excursions.”

“What I love about canoe tripping is that all you need is a boat, you need your (personal flotation device), your paddle and some water. It’s really simple ... we don’t need to make this complicated and I don’t want to have to register my canoe,” said Eoin Wood, director of Camp Wanapitei, a popular summer camp north of North Bay.

Transport Canada says it’s all a misunderstanding and insists there is no new requirement for registration."

Benefit Sunday for ill teen - The Barrie Examiner - Ontario, CA

"A fundraiser will be held Sunday at Ol' West Wing restaurant in Barrie to benefit Adam Fedosoff.

The Innisdale Secondary School student, now 16, was diagnosed with leukemia at age 13. His family has focused on getting him better, which has included a nine-month stay at Ronald McDonald House in Toronto where he received an aggressive medical treatment.

When his situation started to improve, Fedosoff discovered road cycling and participated in the Tour For Kids Ontario last summer -- a four-day ride to help raise money to send children with cancer to camp.

Sunday's event, called 'Friends of Feddy Fundraiser', will include a silent auction and draws.

ATVs to be banned from city paths - The Whig Standard - Ontario, CA

"All-terrain vehicles will be banned on city multi-use paths, but horse riders and snowmobiles will get the green light under a staff-recommended policy.

The economic stimulus fund helped the city construct the Osgoode and Prescott-Russell rural pathways along former rail corridors. Councillors asked staff to look into the issue of motorized vehicles on the paths.

It turned out to be a lively deb at e, especially in Osgoode, where snowmobilers and residents clashed."

You read that right: billion.
