The next step for legendary canoe - Barry's Bay This Week - Ontario, CA
"The famous (and famously immense) birch bark canoe built by Matt Bernard of the Pikwakanagan Algonquins of Golden Lake is about to undergo something of an existential crisis.
The canoe, which was commissioned in 1957 by David A. Gillies, a lumber magnate from Arnprior, as a replica of the huge canoes used in the early fur-trading years of Canada, and even earlier by the Indigenous peoples of the region, has spent more than half a century in the possession of various museums, and has been at home at the Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC) in Gatineau, Quebec for several decades, alternately on display or in storage."

"Spring is a wonderful time to get out to explore in the forest. A soon as the ice melts off the lakes, we take some time to search for old, forgotten trails.
It was one of those wonderful spring afternoons – the lake calm, the sun high in the sky – that Allan and I scanned the shoreline from the canoe. We looked closely down at the map, up at the skyline of the forest, back down to the map and then to the shoreline once again. With practiced eyes, we could make a pretty good guess as to where the trail would most likely have begun."

More ideas for March Break
"Get outside for birdwatching and sweet celebrations
Your family can take part in inexpensive activities at several Ontario parks over March Break. They include:
- . A sweet outing: At Bronte Creek Provincial Park, which is between Burlington and Oakville, there will be wagon rides and a heated pancake house. The park's 112-year-old Spruce Lane Farmhouse will be open for tours and so will the Children's Barn where many farm animals make their home. Maple syrup festivities run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through March Break (March 14 to 18)."

TheRecord - Gotta climb! Mountain adventure whets student’s...
"Matlock hopes the proposed Expedition Club will be approved by the school so that he and other members can undertake future expeditions with the college’s support.
Already, he is planning the club’s first venture — to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Africa’s highest mountain, he says, is one of the “easier” climbs of the Seven Summits (the highest points on all seven continents) he wants to reach in his lifetime."
