Killarney and environs getting international attention

The aerial drone video of Killarney and Georgian Bay was shot by Dave Cornthwaite, who can be found online at www.facebook.com/davecornthwaite.
Killarney was named after a town in Ireland, so perhaps it's appropriate that a pair of journalists from the UK recently hopped across the pond to explore its ample wilderness.
Dave Cornthwaite and Dan Wildey, both seasoned adventurers and prolific chroniclers of their travels, spent a week in early October in the park and its immediate surroundings, paddling, hiking and capturing many images -- including some shot from a drone.
The pair's visit was supported by Northeastern Ontario Tourism (which absorbed the former Rainbow Country Travel Association), as well as Killarney Mountain Lodge and Killarney Outfitters.

Over 400 people have signed up over the years for this web page functionality. With so much of the available OTC information on trails really being front page facing, this back end material didn't offer much value added.
However OTC does have specifically targeted information that is based on our most frequent requests, so we've synthesized the important stuff into key links and access locations to assist your desire as a trail community to learn more.
Pleased review your login and link. Many of you may want to turn on the login functionality given the renewed access to information. Or if you have turned it off and you wish to be removed from this service let us know.
Ontario Trails simplifies your Membership Connection!Over the years the Ontario Trails Council has worked to provide services that give you value and results for your membership support. We are constantly working to improve services and your ability to easily provide feedback on our efforts.
In March the OTC Board endorsed moving to a more automated system of membership management, deciding to use the platform Memberplanet. More information on this can be found at Memberplanet.
The OTC is working to implement this system. The ways to Memberplanet should make membership management easier include:
1) Account information accuracy
2) On-line membership renewal
3) Contact status updates
4) Group news
The membership planet platform provides all of these, including invoicing and receipt generation functions. So if you have an A/P department to report too, this should make your paper trail readily available to you!

We are writing to you as members of Ward 32 Spokes, the local cycling advocacy group associated with Cycle Toronto.
The Woodbine bike lanes are an important addition to the minimum grid of bike lanes cyclists need to get around the city safely. The installation on Woodbine now allows cyclists from Scarborough and the east end to get to and from the Dundas East bike lane and the Martin Goodman trail in safety. Both routes continue on into the downtown core. This will only encourage more people to get out of their cars and onto their bikes as a viable means of transportation, whether commuting or for recreation.
As Councillor Mary-Margaret McMahon has pointed out, the bike lane installation is not yet complete. There are still adjustments being made, such a garbage pick-up time on Woodbine and improving the flow of bikes and traffic at the intersection of Kingston Road and Woodbine.
Our group is committed to making the cycle lanes a success. We are in full support of the further traffic-calming measures for side streets off Woodbine that have been suggested by concerned residents, such as additions of speed bumps, restricted hours of access, and turning some of the streets into one-way streets to increase the safety for everyone. There was a meeting between city staff, Councillor McMahon, members of Ward 32 Spokes, and local residents on the topic of impacts to drivers and residents surrounding the recent Kingston/Woodbine redesign on Tuesday, Oct. 3 and our group is taking pains to ensure that concerns are being heard.
As car drivers as well as cyclists, we have seen the benefits of having the bike lanes on Woodbine. Woodbine was never meant to be a main thoroughfare as evidenced by the no trucks signs posted at intersections, yet over time it has become an alternate continuation of Lakeshore as the preferred means to get to Kingston Road. Since the bike lanes have been put in, we find the traffic on Woodbine a bit slower, yes, but smoother and more predictable, having the very calming effect on the street as bike lanes do as evidenced for years on Dundas Street East.
Our plan as the Ward 32 cycling advocacy group is to continue dialogue with Councillor McMahon and the City of Toronto staff around what some of these tweaks should be to maximize the safety and enjoyability of the Woodbine neighbourhood for everyone. We would suggest other residents do the same.
The Woodbine bike lanes are here to stay as part of the City of Toronto’s 10-year bike plan, and will greatly enhance our Ward for all residents.

Ontario Trails Board and Staff Present at Conservation Areas Workshops
The Annual Conservation Areas Workshop was held at Geneva Park near Orillia, Ontario: October 25th - 27th, 2017. The Workshop provided a valuable opportunity for training, networking, and collaboration for Land Managers and staff of the 36 Conservation Authorities in the province of Ontario. The annual Workshop provided an excellent opportunity for all staff to connect with each other. Check out the Nine Years in Review presentation to learn more.
This year’s theme was Build, Teach, Connect.
Build: Attendees shared their experiences in making the most of natural spaces when building conservation areas.
Teach: Engaging in environmental education is crucial for land managers. The importance of educating the public on the value of conserving natural spaces, and developing deeper connections between people and nature was highlighted through this year’s conference.
Connect: The workshop emphasized how Conservation Areas across the province can connect people and promote an understanding of the importance of maintaining natural habitat. Attendees had the opportunity to collaborate on techniques and strategies for fostering these connections.
This year, the Conservation Areas Workshop was lead by an Eastern Ontario Conservation Authority, South Nation.
John Mesman, Team Lead for Communications at South Nation Conservation will be chairing this year’s conference and offering a new perspective.
A number of OTC Board Members, Dan Andrews, Paul Ronan and staff Patrick Connor all spoke at the event. Thanks to South Nation and to Conservation ONtario for the invitations to speak.
