Cyclist thanks his rescuers - Minden Times - Ontario, CA
"This is our ninth summer at our cottage on Boshkung and your kindness confirms to us that we picked a great area in which to cottage.
Finally, if anyone has doubts about the value of wearing a helmet while cycling, all you need to do is look at mine. It is cracked through in two places, but all I suffered were deep cuts that needed stitching, bruising and scrapes. I am absolutely certain that had I not been wearing a helmet, I would have suffered brain damage, or be dead!"

Trails alliance will use grants to boost profile - Community Press - Ontario, CA
"A new $37,000 marketing strategy will help the Eastern Ontario Trails Alliance attract more tourists into the area, says EOTA general manager, Cindy Cassidy.
The alliance has received two grants — $9,000 from Hastings County and $20,000 from Community Futures and Development corporation and Federal Economic Development Agency — to produce a video to 'showcase trails at trade shows and on YouTube and the EOTA website,' Cassidy said."
This builds on the estimated $340,000 provided by the National Trails Coalition and another another $64,000 through sales of the Trillium Trail Gold pass in 2009-10 - all through the support of the Ontario Trails Council.

Chamber ATV Mania another big success - Northern News - Ontario, CA
"Speaking just prior to the bog Chamber President Jim Taylor stated he and his committee were very pleased with how this year's Mania was proceeding and already calling it another success.
'We are really happy. We have a whole bunch of out of town people this year, people that haven't been here before. I think it's an indication that word is starting to spread throughout the area that its a pretty good event.' According to Taylor Mania weekend has grown every year since its inception yet on the other hand the number of local riders is still not where he would like it to be."

Canoeroots Fall 2010 Issue….CBC Radio Show “Ontario Today”….Some Great Stuff On Canoeing/Wood Canvas Canoes Reflections On The Outdoors Naturally
"So I just got the digital edition of Canoeroots…followed shortly by my printed version….this is a great magazine as usual….even the article by some guy on Tom Thomson’s canoe LOL LOL (yes, yours truly has an article entitled Canvas Covered Mystery: The Unknown Fate Of Thomson’s Canoe; this started from a number of blog entries on here)….despite some personal involvement (I was also quoted from the Canoeroots forum regarding last May’s CANOE 10/Sea Kayaking Symposium in Palmer Rapids), I really liked the whole issue"
Dubai Oasis - Hello From Toronto – A Bike Tour Through the Don Valley, Salsa on St. Clair and Sunnyside Beach
"Hello From Toronto – A Bike Tour Through the Don Valley, Salsa on St. Clair and Sunnyside Beach: "My summery biking adventures through Toronto continue. This morning I packed my backpack and as usual I entered the Taylor Creek Park system. Heading down into the lush green river valley that is fully closed in by trees and bushes on both sides is always such a great feeling, as if the big city was miles away. Yet, I was riding right in the middle of East Toronto, in the heart of Canada’s biggest population centre."
The Caledon Enterprise: Providing Local Community News for Caledon, Ontario 24/7
"It’s been a long ride for Judi Island who has become an accomplished rider since a motor vehicle accident 16 years ago when she suffered a C-3 spinal cord injury (Incomplete Quadriplegia) that left her paralyzed below the neck.
Told that she would never walk again, she left the hospital in a wheelchair after 12 months and turned to therapeutic riding to improve her strength and mobility.
After six years of commitment, determination and learning how to compensate for her limitations, she qualified for the Canadian Para Equestrian Team with her horse, Gitano, at the local Caledon CADORA shows."

For wilderness adventures, check out Ontario's Killarney - Lifestyle - By John M. Smith Belleville Local Community News
"EMC Lifestyles - The picturesque little village of Killarney is located near the northeastern tip of Georgian Bay, so it's far enough away to give you the feeling of being 'away from it all' in a rugged wilderness setting, but without your having to spend a lot of vacation time getting there. In actuality, it's easily reached in a day, whether you take the most direct route north (via #400) or some less congested, more meandering way (via #12 or even through Algonquin Park). You'll eventually hook up with #69 north, heading toward Sudbury, but you'll veer off on #637 west (for 67 kilometres) to your destination."

Carolinian Canada and Trails?
While the summer brings vacations and relaxation for many, our research interns are working hard to study the trails and stories of the Carolinian Canada coast. Samantha and Jennifer are reviewing which trails and sites of interest would allow residents and visitors to follow the story of our coastal wonders. Their comprehensive research isn't complete without your input however! Tell us the trails and sites along the coast that you would visit on a Lake Erie Coastal Trail -- and why. The coast is a Carolinian backyard to many, share your local gems and help contribute to their conservation!

Adopt-a-Road Cleanup - June 2010 :: Eastern Ontario Trail Blazers
"EOTB has adopted 2 km of Hwy 508 leading into Munfords in Calabogie. We use this road so often on the way to so many trails and to camp, it only makes sense that we try to help keep it beautiful.
2 km doesn't sound like much but on a hot day, under attack by ants, wading through long grass, thistles and brush, it's a lot of work! In the end the work was done, both sides, and we followed up with lunch at Polly's Little Shanty in Calabogie.
The neighbours were happy to see us: one drove home and came back a few minutes later with tomato stakes primed with nails aka 'garbage sticks' to make it go a little quicker. Thanks!"

Juices from the plant, which can grow to huge heights, can cause permanent blindness, burns and scarring.
A memo distributed to city council members on Tuesday said residents are warned to stay clear of the weeds at first and call 3-1-1 for more information."
