Midland police – in partnership with the Southern Georgian Bay OPP, the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs and the Georgian Bay Snowriders Club – took to the trails Jan. 7 to promote sledding safety."

"Join CPAWS-OV on Sunday, January 30 at 10 AM for a 2 hour guided snowshoe hike through Forêt La Blanche in Mayo, Quebec.

Meet at the Forêt La Blanche Interpretation Center. Hike will cost non-members a $5 donation, event is FREE for CPAWS members. While there is usually an admission fee to Forêt La Blanche, it has been waived for all hike participants on this day.

If you are not equipped with your own snowshoes, there are snowshoes for rent ($5/day) at the Interpretation Center, or you can rent them at MEC (366 Richmond Road).

"Some people genuinely seemed to think that drivers singlehandedly pay for the roads. Others were just trolling by calling for mandatory bicycle licensing, testing and registration to pay for bike infrastructure.

We all know that our roads are paid for by municipal property taxes – which are paid for by everyone – including bicyclists. And since bicyclists can only use a subset of the roads that their tax dollars are paying for, bicyclists are actually subsidizing motorists."

The Ontario Trails Council lists over 800 on and off road cycling trails. Does your allow e-bikes. As far as we know nobody has complied an answer to this question and we'd like to be able to provide e-users with an answer. (They ask all the time)

"The canyon, formed 1.2 billion years ago by a fault along the Canadian Shield, drops 500 feet. Four waterfalls spill from the canyon rim into the Agawa River at the bottom of the canyon. Bridal Veil Falls, the tallest waterfall in the park is 225 feet high. Day-trippers can hike several trails, visiting waterfalls and small streams, during a two-hour layover before they return to Sault Ste. Marie. Overnight guests can spend the night in a caboose converted into a small cabin.
In the canyon, I left the tour train and picked up the local train, which travels through logging camps and fishing camps, occasionally stopping to drop off fishermen at small bed and breakfasts. According to the anglers onboard, this is great walleye country."

"Today the Star ran an article about a plan to build curbs to separate bike lanes in the downtown.  Denzil Minnan-Wong, the new chair of the public works and infrastructure committee, has come out in support of building a network of separated bike lanes along major streets.  Some streets that already have space carved out with bike lanes - such as Sherbourne - will get curbs separating cars from bikes. Other streets without bike lanes - such as Richmond - may get bi-directional bike lanes. Of course, this plan must pass through the committee and then council, but it's great news for Toronto!"

One death on an area lake has already been reported after 55-year-old Rick Schween plunged through the ice on Longpine Lake in early December as heavy snowfalls slowed the pace of ice production in the region."
