Bike Freeway almost ready to open in Toronto. Check it out
"Construction is continuing on the bike highway as I call it, near my house.
I am excited for it to be completed so I can try it out. The project will be completed in the next month or so and it is part of a number of trail extensions, which will provide basically a bike highway through hydro corridors and old rail corridors. The photos below are for the Gatineau corridor, which is the trail I live off of. "

Announcement of Political support for trails - Conservatives

IMPROVE AND EXPAND CANADA’S SNOWMOBILE AND RECREATIONAL TRAILS (Page 57)
The snowmobile was invented in Canada and, ever since, snowmobiling has been a hugely popular Canadian recreational activity. Our Government has provided support to the National Trails Coalition for a national initiative to create and improve snowmobile and all-terrain-vehicle trails. To date our support has helped improve 500 trails across the country.
We will build on this accomplishment, through additional funding for upgrades and new trails.

Editors note - it also provided support for non-motorized trails, about 8.2 million of 24 million so we wouldn't want that contribution to be missed as fact. We would ask all parties to consider trails funding as part of their platform.

It's a little different from last year. Ice out April 3? I don't think so.
As type this in the office at Oxtongue Lake, I can hear the buzzing of snowmobiles drag racing up and down the lake. Last April 3, you might have heard the putt-putting of a cottager out cruising in their tin boat, or maybe the swish of a paddle. I'm not complaining about the sledders, if I was a snowmobiler I'd probably be doing the same thing. I am a skier, and what did I do yesterday? I went....

OFSC Closes Snowmobile Trails Today

(Barrie, ON April 4, 2011): The provincial snowmobile trail system operated by members of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) for winter tourism is now closed for the season. “Please avoid taking any foolish risks – for your own safety keep your sled parked until trails open again next winter.” That’s the urgent safety message from the OFSC as it warns all snowmobilers to stay off closed OFSC trails and not to trespass on private property.
