Support Toronto Trails Committee and Welland East Side Trails - from Ontario Trails

More Information

Many volunteers worked hard for the last 21 years with the Seaway Commission and the Niagara Region to develop the East Side Canal Trail. This trail is a vital segment of the larger Greater Niagara Circle Route Trail. Without this link, and City of Welland Support the entire 160km loop is at risk of closure. Thorold, Port Robinson, Port Colborne, Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls, Stephensville, Fort Erie, St. Catharines are at risk of having over $10.6million of federal, provincial and private sector money invested in developing and maintaining this tourism and local community trail; being wasted!

Supporters

Reasons for signing

  • Charles Levere ST CATHARINES, CANADA
I walk along this trail many times throught the year
  • Jo-Ann Kinnear PORT ROBINSON, CANADA
I use this trail all the time with my two sons, age 8 and age 5. It would be a great disappointment if we didn't have the east side of the canal to enjoy the outdoors!!
  • myself, my daughter, my son, my girlfriend, and her two children all use this trail on a regular basis for trail riding, we operate properly licensed and insured off road bikes, its an amaxzing family outdoor activity for which the opportunities are sadly shrinking
  • Frank Hagar STONEY CREEK, CANADA
Maintaining a place where people can enjoy the city and participate in some physical activity.
  • There are very few places a family can go in the area to enjoy their offroading recreational time. It's been a wonderful way for my daughter and I to see nature, have adventures and allows her to also enjoy a common enjoyment with her father. Not many girls have that. Let us continue to legally enjoy the Eastside Trail System. Not just us but the many other families we have come across who also enjoy spending time in this way.

Here's what some folks who like this trail have to say about it:

Jeromy Purnell NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, CANADA
It such a great place to enjoy various outdoor activities that may not be possible elsewhere.

Amber Gilbert FENWICK, CANADA
I enjoy riding my horse with friends on the East side canal trail

Brad Seburn ST.CATHARINES, CANADA
Its taking away a massive amount of land for friends and families to enjoy with a variety of activities.

Chris S ST CATHARINES, CANADA
This is important to me because of the dwindling area to safely ride dirt bikes in the Niagara region. There needs to be a safe, LEGAL place to participate in this type of activity and this area is perfect!

Sharon schmidt KITCHENER, CANADA
I grew up in the Niagara Region and this trail adds to the quality of life, makes me want to visit again and again

Niagara Trails Committee WELLAND, CANADA
Many members of the Ontario Trails Council supported the development of this trail over the years. not enough has been done to support users in supporting this trail

Hi all, it has been suggested from several sources that this petition is not in the best interest of achieving it's goals at this time. As of now the petition is closed. The European Parliament has voted to separate regulation on motorised and non-motorised bicycles, a move two-wheeler associations say will safeguard investment in cycling.

In the plenary session, European lawmakers decided on Tuesday (20 November) that any electronically power assisted cycle (EPAC) under 250 watts and a maximum speed of 25 kilometres per hour would remain a bicycle.

Anything more powerful is considered a motorbike, in line with the European Commission’s original proposal.

Ceri Woolsgrove, road safety officer for the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), said: “We need a clear border line between what a bicycle is and what exceeds the definition of a ‘bicycle’.” Read more

Ontario Trail MembershipMembership renewals for 2013 are going out December 1st, 2012 We are sending them to you as our contact person - but is there someone else that has to absolutely get the invoice in your organization? We wish to make sure they land on the right desk! Board members or staff will be calling to confirm over the next weeks.

OTC Membership is Value for Money : How do we stack up? This year we will have1,000,000 unique visitors to the OTC website. For trails there is no other leader - not even nationally - and I quote from Context Creative:

"ComScore is a leading analytics organization that provides industry standard rankings used by many companies to assess their performance and investments in the digital world; many agency planners only go off ComScore numbers in their media buying initiatives. There are a couple of other trail sites as well, but Suite66 wasn't able to locate another one big enough to be reported in ComScore. So this is also impressive that OTC is present there.

For the month of September 2012, Canadian stats:
OntarioTrails.on.ca65,764 UVs (Unique Views) / 329,511 PVs (Page Views)
ComScore reports the following for comparison:
national outdoor org  50,440 UV’s / 249,000 PV’s
national geographic org:  41,000 UV’s / 114,000 PV’s"

So please tell you administrators that even in terms of a couple of hundred dollars in marketing expense, more people will see and use your trails because of your presence on the OTC website. The site is no longer supported by the province - so we need your financial support to manage, update and improve the site every day! Join Today - Use Paypal!
