Ecosystems at risk in Far North - thegreenpages - Ontario

"Two years ago Ontario promised to create a globally significant interconnected network of conservation lands across the Far North. The announcement was greeted with much fanfare in Canada and around the world. The plan promised to enshrine a new respect for and working relationship with First Nations, including new approaches to resource benefit sharing and a greater say in the future of their communities and traditional lands."

Toronto By Bike – Sonic Eclectic

"In this year’s mayoral debate, the future of cycling in Toronto took a front seat; with candidates representing both sides of the issue. The talk centered around whether bike lanes should be put in place on major streets or instead, for the safety of drivers and convenience of drivers, along side streets. Many feel quite comfortable with the ease of the bike lanes already set up on many major streets while others like Thomson ride in fear. I decided to take to the streets on my new bike to see for myself."

Outdoors blog: Rainbow, yellow dog, fish dinner in canoe country | Duluth News Tribune | Duluth, Minnesota

"The light rain shower had moved through while we were fishing just off camp on Cirrus Lake in Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park last week. My wife, Phyllis, was paddling, and I was trying to catch a walleye or two for supper. The walleyes weren't cooperating. Then Phyllis, who was sitting on the bow seat facing backwards, looked over me and said. 'Hey, a rainbow.'"

Adventures With Bruce | Adventures With Bruce: Day 5 (outdoorsica.com)

"In Hamilton, the Escarpment is locally known as “The Mountain”. It got its nickname because the geologic feature, although scenic, was a serious impediment to early regional travel. In 1890, work began on an incline railway which could move products and passengers from Hamilton up and over the Mountain towards neighbouring Barton Township. Construction was completed in 1892 and for nearly 40 years these 700 feet of train tracks on a 31% grade serviced the city’s residents and tourists alike. Improving access and the popularization of motorways meant that by 1931 the railway was no longer needed. The tracks were removed during World War II and the right of way was adopted by the Hamilton Parks Board."

Top Toronto Bike Paths

"The top bike paths in Toronto aren't made up of too many hidden gems. As it should, the Toronto Cycling Map charts the routes of the various paved and low-difficulty dirt trails across the city. But, due to our plentiful ravines -- where a number of these paths and trails are located -- in the absence of the map and/or a little local knowledge, it's possible to miss some excellent opportunities to ride without fear of (heavy) vehicular traffic."

Gearing Up: News and Tips about Cycling, Gear, Rides and the RONA MS Bike Tours in Ontario: Cycling Tip: Proper Gear

"Good bike shorts can be an important part of your cycling gear. Most shorts are made of Lycra, a breathable, lightweight material that wicks sweat away from your skin and helps cool you while cutting down wind resistance. Between the close fit and the synthetic material, cycling shorts provide comfort while you ride and help prevent chafing and rashes. A chamois lining also protects you from chafing from the bike's seat. Finally, the tight fit of bike shorts allows them to effectively hug or compress the thigh muscles, cutting down on muscle fatigue."

"This is our ninth summer at our cottage on Boshkung and your kindness confirms to us that we picked a great area in which to cottage.

Finally, if anyone has doubts about the value of wearing a helmet while cycling, all you need to do is look at mine. It is cracked through in two places, but all I suffered were deep cuts that needed stitching, bruising and scrapes. I am absolutely certain that had I not been wearing a helmet, I would have suffered brain damage, or be dead!"
