Hike Spencer Gorge

Event conditional on weather Let's start off with a hike to Spencer Gorge. It has 2 beautiful waterfalls, Webster's Falls with its magnificent curtain and Tew Falls which is 41 metres in height. In the winter this is a magical place because the waterfalls become frozen. What is great about Webster's Falls is that it can be reached by a staircase that allows visitors to get close to the base of the falls. There are many great lookouts along the Spencer Gorge and Dundas Peak

Switchback snowshoe race this weekend - Collingwood Enterprise Bulletin - Ontario, CA

"there's a switchback on tap for the Family Day weekend at the Craigleith Ski Club and it might not be for the faint of heart -- or breath.

The Switchback Challenge snowshoe race will see the resort over-run with a squall of snowshoers eager to tackle unforgiving slopes of the forbidding Blue Mountains. It's one of the area's best-kept secrets, although it's also one of the more popular snowshoe races in the province and in Canada.

Organizer Hugh Fallon said the race started from somewhat inauspicious beginnings."

First city-wide Family Day celebration set to begin - thestar.com

"It’s been four years since Premier Dalton McGuinty gave Ontarians the gift of a day off in February. And while it’s taken a while for us to embrace it, Family Day has finally caught on.

While many families have taken the opportunity to go away, if you’re staying home there’s still plenty to do."

Snowmobiling is all 'about the lifestyle' - The Sudbury Star - Ontario, CA

"A few years ago, the Greater Sudbury area was the heart and soul of snowmobiling activity -- the epicentre, really -- in northeastern Ontario.

A huge event in Garson this Saturday is looking to attract 350 snowmobilers from across Ontario. Organizers also want to help get that image back after a number of rather quiet years on the trails in the Sudbury District.

'The Big Deal Poker Run idea came up back in October,' Mark Lang of Snow Goer Magazine Canada."

Always check ice before you head out - Northumberland Today - Ontario, CA

"This is where my mixed emotions come into play. The forecast for the next couple of days is calling for abnormally high temperatures and rain for our part of Ontario. If that comes true, and it sure looks and feels like it will, we won't have to worry about fighting deep snow until we get back to cooler, freezing weather again. I like that idea, simply because I like to zip around the lakes on my ATV and fish a variety of locations, which usually results in better catches, especially when an area gets too much fishing pressure as some locations are.

On the other hand, will we even be able to go ice fishing until the ice firms up again? Will the ice be safe enough to walk on, let alone drive on? Only time will tell, but you can bet I'll be checking the ice conditions thoroughly before I head out on it."

Stoked on Stokely skiing - thestar.com

"The three of us — Nordic skiers of varying levels — have stopped halfway through our 15-kilometre trek at the propane-heated Stokely Lake Cabin to eat lunch, swap ski stories and pose for pictures with fellow skiers. Pat, Carina and I have plans to press on to the legendary Norm’s Cabin on Bone Lake, where trapper Norm Bourgeois lived until his death last year. Maintained by the Algoma Highlands Nature Conservancy, the rustic cabin is filled with memorabilia and tea and cookies, awaiting famished skiers. But our aching quads demand our attention, so we head back to the trailhead under sunny, blue skies — and a few slippery slopes along the way."
