Dave Harvey, executive director of Park People - Dave Harvey, executive director of Park People | Kevin Van Paassen/The Globe and Mail

Stories of community groups meeting with what seems like unnecessary bureaucratic interference are easy to come by in Toronto, whether it’s the city cracking down on pizza nights organized by a group in Christie Pits Park or trying to force a dozen senior citizens to pay for a permit to walk on the trails in Humber Bay Park.

At a panel discussion on the state of Toronto’s parks held last week at the University of Toronto, the large crowd’s enthusiasm for green space was only matched by their frustrations at dealing with red tape at city hall without being able to present themselves as a unified force. Council looks into ATV troubles - Community Press - Ontario, CA: "weed — Road damage and noise at the hands of some ATV riders has council here considering its options.

Reeve Jo-Anne Albert raised the issue, citing the minutes of the infrastructure committee at council's April meeting.

According to the committee report, a committee member suggested the bylaw permitting ATVs on secondary roadways in the municipality be reviewed due to complaints from residents about road damage and noise.

'If people have complaints, I want them in writing so we can put them on the table,' Albert told council."

In Ontario the lead Ministry for Trails is the Ministry of Health Promotion. The Ontario trails Council is pleased to welcome Minister Best to our National Panel on trails. The Ontario Trails Council is the lead partner in the Ministry's efforts to tackle all the 52 challenges in the provincial trail strategy. Come and meet the Minister April 18th at 2-m.

Q: What makes Algonquin Provincial Park so special?

"The park is special for so many reasons. Bottom line, it is an iconic wilderness area, easily accessible to many people, with a wide range of year-round self-propelled activities to choose from. I visit the park in all seasons and have enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, canoe-camping, white-water paddling, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, all in Algonquin Park."
