Lake Erie Coastal Stewardship Trail News
COAST KEEPERS RESPOND TO OUR CALL FOR HELP!www.carolinian.org
Creating a multi-use coastal trail along the Canadian shore of Lake Erie is no simple task but it’s been made easier thanks to a number of volunteers who have offered to help scope out our proposed trail routes.  These “Coast Keepers” have come forward to investigate areas such as Pelee Island, Erieau, Port Burwell and the Grand and Canard rivers.  There is still time to join these, and other volunteers, who are testing the 600 km trail by bike, car, kayak or foot.  You may also wish to highlight your habitat restoration project or a local trail that you feel should be part of the coastal trail.                                                           Contact Dan at coast@carolinian.org for more info.

Waterfront Trust

We have received several calls from long-time waterfront supporters, all deeply concerned about proposals by the Mayor of Toronto to amend the plans developed by Waterfront Toronto regarding the Port Lands in Toronto without public consultation or the involvement of Waterfront Toronto. Today's report that the Mayor is refining his position to retain Waterfront Toronto as the lead agency for development in the Port Lands.

Toronto Star
Waterfront Toronto held an extensive and meaningful public consultation process that brought together international and national experts as well as Torontonians to work out a vision and a strategy for the waterfront. This process was critical to moving forward with the many projects that have been completed to date and those still in the planning stages. Waterfront Toronto’s public consultation process was instrumental in engendering public confidence and optimism in what can and should be achieved.

The Waterfront Regeneration Trust has been and continues to be an active participant in this process along with hundreds of others. We strongly endorse this process and the vision, strategies, projects and plans that have developed from it. We also commend Waterfront Toronto for its leadership role in the vitally important development of Toronto’s waterfront.

Marlaine Koehler, Executive Director
Waterfront Regeneration Trust
Urban Planning

The evolution of suburbs over the decades reflect the nuances and dynamics behind North American families, communities and policies guiding environmental, social, economic and physical developments.

At the same time, fundamental questions about the viability and sustainability of entrenched values, ideals and interests have continued to be a topic of debate and controversy.

Attend the 3rd Annual Retrofitting & Planning Sustainable Suburbs Summit, being held in Toronto on November 8th & 9th, 2011 and appraising current suburban lifestyles and landscapes, and the way forward. Book your space today! Visit http://www.sustainablesuburbs.ca to register and view the agenda.
