"Peterborough continues to grow and connect its network of trails and bike lanes, a city official told the arenas, parks and recreation committee on Tuesday.

As part of the ongoing improvements to the trail system, the city is installing 18 trail map signs at prominent locations this year, said Virginia Swinson, acting transportation demand management planner."

A special awards ceremony took place on Earth Day, April 22, at the Outdoor centre at the Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area just outside Kingston.

"The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RlnC) Program in Ontario and the Ontario Recreation Program (Ontario REC) have agreed to let Orangeville keep the funding it received for the terminated rail side trail project and use it for other projects.

The Canada-Ontario Recreational Infrastructure Joint Secretariat considered the town’s recommendation that the $220,000 in funds be directed instead towards the town’s “missing links” project. It decided this project complies with the terms and conditions of the joint federal/provincial recreational infrastructure funding program.

The project recommendations were voted in at Monday night’s public council meeting.

Missing link One is the section on C-Line from Brenda Blvd. to Broadway. Missing link Two is the section on Riddell Road between Alder Street and Montgomery Boulevard."

The Inverary resident is the recipient of a 2010 Ontario Equestrian Federation Youth Bursary valued at $1,000.

'We're thrilled,' said Given's mother, Lisl. 'She's worked hard and put a lot of time and effort into it. This really can make a difference in what we can afford in terms of coaching.'"

Teen dies in canoeing accident - The North Bay Nugget - Ontario, CA

"A 17-year-old canoeist died in Algonquin Park over the weekend.

Robert O'Brien, 17, of Barrie died Sunday after his canoe turned over in Ralph Bice Lake in Butt Township, Ontario Provincial Police reported Monday.

Police were called at about 4:20 p.m. Two other canoeists were airlifted by Trenton Search and Rescue to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. They were treated for hypothermia and released."
