Essex kids sing for votes

"'I want a playground for Essex. Only a playground will do.'

Those are the opening lines of the song they're singing as an outpouring of community spirit has pushed Essex public school ahead of schools from big cities across Ontario in the frenzied chase for up to $1 million from the Aviva Community Fund.

'I'm so proud how everybody has come together for this project,' said retired teacher Pam Gibb. 'We are doing well against some major centres. This town is plastered with Aviva signs.'"
