Bruce Peninsula Sets Record - Trails Of ValueTOBERMORY, ON, Nov. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Bruce Peninsula National Park has broken another visitor record as it welcomed over 284,000 visitors to the park between May and October 2013. This represents a 13% increase in visitation from 2012, and continues an upward trend that began in 2007. Over the past 6 years, annual visitation to the park has increased by over 60%.
The Bruce Peninsula is an incredibly rich and spectacular place to discover and enjoy what being outdoors is all about. In fact, the richness of the region is so abundant that in addition to Bruce Peninsula National Park, Fathom Five National Marine Park is also situated at the northern tip of the peninsula. Together, the two parks conserve approximately 268 km2 of land and water. On behalf of Canadians, Parks Canada protects and operates these incredible parks - internationally renowned for their breathtaking natural features.

Ontario Trails Promotes Input - Please share!

The Ontario Trails Strategy was launched in 2005 as a framework to help guide public, not-for-profit and private sector involvement with trails.  The Ontario Trails Strategy establishes five strategic directions for planning, managing, promoting and using trails in Ontario and was developed in collaboration with other ministries and a wide range of stakeholders in the community.

The Ontario Trails Coordinating Committee is reviewing the Ontario Trails Strategy and are interested in knowing the key contributions your
organization has made to support the implementation of the Strategy.  The information will be compiled in a summary report document that is intended to illustrate the progress and accomplishments that the province and its partners have made towards implementing the Ontario Trails Strategy since 2005.

The link below will bring you to a short survey for you to outline your organization’s key accomplishments under the five strategic directions.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ontariotrails The following link brings you to the 2005 Ontario Trails Strategy for your reference.  The survey will close end of day on Friday November 29, 2013http://www.mtc.gov.on.ca/en/sport/recreation/A2010_TrailStrategy.pdf
A discussion paper for public comment is on the Environmental Registry  (Number: 011-9565). The public comment period closes on Wednesday, December 4, 2013.  Attached is a copy of the Discussion Paper.
As you are aware, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport will be hosting regional consultation sessions, by invite only, on strengthening the Ontario Trails Strategy. Below are the two remaining dates of the consultation sessions:
November 27 – Thunder Bay
November 28 – North Bay

In addition, two provincial First Nation/Aboriginal organization engagement sessions as well as a meeting with the Métis Nation of Ontario will be scheduled. Thank you for your ongoing support.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs has added our logo and link to it's home page. Last year nearly 1,000,000 unique visitors came to the OTC website to find your trail. Over 2,000,000 people visited our map site and various social media sites. By adding our logo and link to your page not only do you help connect people to our resources, but you help fund the OTC through advertising revenue received by web traffic. This has kept our annual dues at the cost of a tank of diesel for your truck 2x a year. Thanks for your consideration.

Ontario Trail Membership
Membership renewals for 2013 are going out December 1st, 2012 We are sending them to you as our contact person - but is there someone else that has to absolutely get the invoice in your organization? We wish to make sure they land on the right desk! Board members or staff will be calling to confirm over the next weeks.

OTC Membership is Value for Money : How do we stack up? This year we will have1,000,000 unique visitors to the OTC website. For trails there is no other leader - not even nationally - and I quote from Context Creative:

"ComScore is a leading analytics organization that provides industry standard rankings used by many companies to assess their performance and investments in the digital world; many agency planners only go off ComScore numbers in their media buying initiatives. There are a couple of other trail sites as well, but Suite66 wasn't able to locate another one big enough to be reported in ComScore. So this is also impressive that OTC is present there.

For the month of September 2012, Canadian stats:
OntarioTrails.on.ca65,764 UVs (Unique Views) / 329,511 PVs (Page Views)
ComScore reports the following for comparison:
national outdoor org  50,440 UV’s / 249,000 PV’s
national geographic org:  41,000 UV’s / 114,000 PV’s"

So please tell you administrators that even in terms of a couple of hundred dollars in marketing expense, more people will see and use your trails because of your presence on the OTC website. The site is no longer supported by the province - so we need your financial support to manage, update and improve the site every day! Join Today - Use Paypal!

Ontario Trails Council President recieves Queen Elizabeth II 2012 Diamond Jubilee Medal

“I was very surprised. It’s quite an honour and to get it from your peers to say that you have done a good job means a lot,” says de Wit. “I feel honoured, but I think there are a lot of people out there that are just as deserving.”

De Wit, who is president of the Ontario Trails Council, was chair of a committee formed in 2009-2010 that was responsible for distributing $8.3 million in federal stimulus funding earmarked for trail development in Ontario. With contributions from the private sector, close to 100 projects totaling about $25 million were approved across the province.

“It helped create jobs, it left a trail legacy, built trail capacity and it involved hundreds and hundreds of hours of volunteer time,” says Patrick Connor, a Medal Recipient as well, Executive Director of the Ontario Trails Council and one of de Wit’s nominators.

“The guy makes a difference. He’s a leader and he makes a difference. These medals are really a small recognition – a really nice recognition – of his volunteer and leadership. It has made a difference in my life and in so many other lives.”

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. During the year of celebrations, 60,000 deserving Canadians will be recognized.
