Oxford Trail Council Resident Comment

I have been on the Oxford County Trails Council for two and a half years. I raced motorcycles in the late 70s and 80s, drag racing and road racing. Yet, it is odd for me to be on the trails council (OCTC), building the Oxford Thames River Trail, a walking trail on private land. As a farmer for 40 years, I drove an ATV for many of those years on my land, trying not to cause erosion or damage to the land. This is not so on the Thames River Trail where there are huge ruts on the ATV trails and huge areas of deforestation. OCTC will be part of a huge tree planti

ng program with Upper Thames, Oxford County and school children. I need two bricks; one for the ATV riders not joining the OCTC and asking us to build trails for ATVs. The second brick goes to my fellow OCTC members. The fundraising flyers for the Beachville Trail indicate it's a trail for everyone to enjoy, but that's not true if ATVs are excluded. However, a lot of work has been done with township and county councils, the Upper Thames, CN and CP Railway and private landowners to get permissions which deserves a bouquet for doing this charity work.
