The Ontario Trails Council is not government, but we are a friend of due process.
On Friday March 25th, OTC President Chris Laforest and OTC Executive Director Patrick Connor had a discussion with Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport ADM Jean Lam and several ranking staff on revitalizing Ontario's recreation policy.
Yesterday OTC Treasurer Ray Gilbert and Patrick Connor sat in as invited quests of Park and Recreation Ontario at a High Level Strategic Thinker Session on revitalizing the Ontario Recreational Policy Statement.
Written in 1987 the policy statement is in need of revision and updating. A series of on-going conference calls and face to face meetings should see a new policy by June 2011.
The OTC appreciates the support of PRO, its President Liz Weaver and Executive Larry Ketcheson for being so open about OTC participation. We appreciate that the MHPS recognizes the profile of trails and their value as an element of recreational culture in Ontario.
