OFTR - The Ontario Federation of Trail Riders

“A By-law to Regulate Parks and Facilities”, in order to permit new uses for the planned trail development as recommended by the Somerville Forest User Group Advisory Committee was approved.

Specifically – a bylaw to allow OFTR members to use the approved trails in Somerville Forest was approved last week and we are very grateful to the City of Kawartha Lakes and the Somerville Forest User Group (SFUG). Ken Hoeverman, Executive Director of the OFTR and local resident has been a member of SFUG since 2005 and has been lobbying for access to the forest under a managed use agreement involving OFTR stewardship practices. The OFTR has an environmental policy in place to minimize the impact of Off Road Motorcycles (ORM) on trails and successfully manages ORM use in several municipal forests and private land."
